MTS Boosting Service for Metallica Concert

San Diego – Heavy metal icon Metallica is bring its WorldWired Tour 2017 to Petco Park on Sunday night and the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is scheduleing extra service to accommodate more than 40,000 concert-goers. Additionally, attendees are encouraged to use Compass Cloud, the mobile ticketing app to speed up boarding and avoid ticket vending maching lines.  

Trains will depart all stations every 15 minutes throughout the day on the Green Line and UC San Diego Blue Line, and every 30 minutes on the Orange Line. Beginning at 3:53 p.m., Green Line trains will increase frequency to every 7 minutes between Qualcomm Stadium and downtown San Diego. Increased frequency will continue after the event until crowds diminish. The concert is scheduled to end at 11:15 p.m. The final trains leaving the downtown area are as follows:

• Green Line (Gaslamp Quarter Station to Santee): 12:15 a.m.
• UC San Diego Blue Line (12th & Imperial to San Ysidro): 12:15 a.m.
• Orange Line (12th & Imperial to El Cajon): 12:03 a.m.

Recommended locations to park and ride the Trolley:

• Qualcomm Stadium: 5,000 free parking spots (Green Line)
• Old Town Transit Center: 412 free parking spots (Green Line)
• Palm Avenue Station: 499 free parking spots (UC San Diego Blue Line)
• Spring Street Transit Center: 324 free parking spots (Orange Line)

MTS also has 22 bus routes reaching the downtown area including Rapid 215 (SDSU – downtown San Diego) and Rapid 235 (Escondido – downtown San Diego). Both routes will be departing stations every 15 minutes for most of the day.  

To avoid Trolley ticket lines and speed up the boarding process, concert-goers can purchase and store Trolley passes on their smart phones at any time prior to arriving at transit stations by using Compass Cloud, MTS’s free mobile ticketing app. Fans can find the app by search for “Compass Cloud” in the App Store or on Google Play.
