MTS Mobile Ticketing Now Available for Padres Games

MTS Trolley special events service in play for Padres home opener on Thursday, April 9

San Diego, Calif. –For the first time, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is making its convenient mTicket mobile ticketing option available for select Padres games, including the home opening series against the San Francisco Giants and all weekend series (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) throughout the season.

MTS will also add special event service for the home opener on Thursday to accommodate the 50,000 fans expected to attend the San Diego Padres Opening Day game and surrounding festivities on Thursday, April 9. Fans are advised to travel early and purchase day-passes using the free mTicket app to speed up the boarding process. First pitch is at 3:40 p.m.

The free mTicket app is available in both the App Store and Google Play. Just search for mTicket and download. It allows passengers to purchase and store game-day Trolley passes on their smart phones at any time prior to arriving at transit stations. Multiple mTickets can be purchased on one smart phone too, making it easy for families and friends traveling together. Passengers without a Compass Card can avoid the $2 purchase fee by using mTicket.

All three Trolley lines provide direct access to Petco Park. Special Trolley service for Thursday, April 9, is as follows:

Pre-Game Service

Normal 15-minute service on all lines except as noted below:

• Blue Line – Beginning at 2:10 p.m. from San Ysidro until game time, Blue Line trains will depart every 7.5 minutes. Take the northbound Blue Line toward America Plaza. Exit at the 12th & Imperial Transit Center.
• Green Line – Beginning at 1:08 p.m. until game time, Green Line trains will depart every 7.5 minutes between Qualcomm Stadium and the ballpark. Take the westbound Green Line toward 12th & Imperial. Exit at the Gaslamp Quarter Station or at the 12th & Imperial Transit Center.
• Orange Line – Normal 15-minute service will operate. Take the westbound Orange Line toward Santa Fe Depot. Exit at the 12th & Imperial Transit Center.

Post-Game Service

Normal 15-minute service will be increased by inserting additional trains on all three lines as needed from the ballpark stations.

Padres fans who ride the Trolley avoid traffic hassles and can also park for free at one of many park-and-rides available on MTS’ three light rail lines including Qualcomm Stadium.

Trolley stops with high capacity for free parking are as follows:

• Qualcomm Stadium: 5,000 free parking spots (Green Line)
• Palm Avenue: 300 free parking spots (Blue Line)
• El Cajon Transit Center: 469 free parking spots (Orange Line/Green Line)
• Spring Street: 404 free parking spots (Orange Line)

North County fans who have the $12 RegionPlus Day Pass purchased from a COASTER ticket machine or from the COASTER smartphone app can ride to Santa Fe Depot and transfer to the Green Line for no additional cost. COASTER riders with one-way fares are required to purchase a Trolley fare at Santa Fe Depot before transferring to the Trolley.
