Defensive Driver Training
Safety behind the wheel doesn’t stop with our operators. MTS has many employees that drive our fleet of non-revenue vehicles – security personnel, mechanics, revenue collectors, and more. Starting in February 2018, MTS Bus took the challenge of training 296 MTS employees in the art of defensive driving to better prepare them for what bus and train operators are trained on. Mike Perez from the MTS Bus Training Division was the lead instructor and did a great job teaching about the four principles of safe driving called LLLC – Look Ahead, Look Around, Leave Room and Communicate.
New Pedestrian Inspection Facility “PedEast” Opens
The General Services Administration and Customs and Border Protection opened an improved inspection facility on August 15 at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. It has 22 processing lanes, and will significantly increase the pedestrian inspection capacity at the busiest land port in the Western Hemisphere. Known as “PedEast,” the facility directly connects pedestrians to MTS’ San Ysidro Transit Center where 11,000 daily border crossers use our transit system.
