MTS Schedules Extra Late-Night Service for Gaslamp Quarter ShamROCK Festivities

San Diego, CA –On Saturday, March 15, the Gaslamp Quarter streets will become a sea of green at the 19th Annual ShamROCK St. Patrick’s Day celebration. To accommodate party goers, all three Trolley lines will offer additional late-night trips to get home.

  • For event goers returning to La Mesa and El Cajon, Orange Line trains depart the 5th Avenue Trolley Station every half hour, with the last train leaving at 12:25 a.m.
  • For people bound to communities to the south, Blue Line Trolleys to San Ysidro depart the 5th Avenue Trolley Station every half hour with the last train departing at 12:22 a.m.
  • For service through Mission Valley to the SDSU Station only, special Green Line trains will depart the Gaslamp Quarter Station every half hour beginning at 10:38 a.m. until 12:08 a.m., with the final two train departures at 12:23 a.m. and 12:38 a.m.
  • For Green Line service all the way to Santee, the last train departs the Gaslamp Quarter Station at 10:08 p.m. and starting with the 10:38 p.m. departure all Green Line trains will terminate at the SDSU Station.
  • For late service to the Grossmont Center, Amaya Dr. or El Cajon stations, riders should use the Orange Line departing from the 5th Avenue Station.
  • Free parking is available at many MTS Trolley Stations, including Qualcomm Stadium. For information on Trolley Stations with free parking and for all special service departure times visit http://www.sdmts.com/Trolley/shamrock.asp.

MTS Bus routes 2, 3, 4, 7, 11, 15, 901, and 929 also provide late-night service from downtown. Last departures vary from about 10:25 p.m. to after midnight. From the stop at Broadway and 3rd Avenue, the last Route 2 departs at 12:35 a.m. the last Route 7 at 1:04 a.m.; the last Route 15 at 12:06 a.m.; and the last Route 901 at 1:22 a.m. From the 12th & Imperial Station, the last Route 929 departs at 2:01 a.m. All buses will run on a regular Saturday schedule.

MTS encourages event goers to check bus and Trolley schedules and buy Day Passes before boarding the Trolley on their way to ShamROCK to save time and avoid ticket lines after the event. Day Passes are $5 for people with Compass Cards. There is a $2 fee for Day Passes purchased without a Compass Card. A one-way fare or Day Pass can be purchased at Trolley station ticket vending machines and on board buses.

A Day Pass on Compass Card or an empty Compass Card can also be purchased at any Albertsons store. Once you have a Compass Card, keep it and reload it with another pass to use the next time you ride.

MTS operates more than 90 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway throughout metropolitan San Diego County.
