TROLLEY

Three MTS train operators who fit the criteria are John Zon, Eddie Uribe and Alan Naranjo. All three have been with MTS for quite a while and have been very dependable. John has never had a miss-out in his 10 years at MTS! He said all the activity on the rail line demands a 100% frame of mind that’s into the job. “There’s a lot of hustle and bustle out there. I like being a part of the city. That keeps me coming back.” Eddie attributed his work ethic to his grandpa. “My grandpa worked 39 years in heavy rail and probably never missed a day.” Alan credited the work environment at MTS. “This is a great group of people. We help each other to keep the trains moving.”

BUS

On the Bus side, Operators Alan White and Rudy Alvarez are at the top of the list when it comes to attendance. Both haven’t recorded a miss-out in the last three years. Alan credits the importance of steady attendance to former bus operator Cecil Briggs. “Cecil told me about the three S’s – Suit Up, Show Up and Seize the Moment. I really took that to heart,” said Alan. “I’m not hard on myself for not being perfect. I try to make the best of each situation that comes my way.” Rudy credited his previous job for his solid attendance record. He worked for The San Diego Union-Tribune as newspaper production manager. “I worked for 30 years at the U-T and had 100 people depending on me each day at 3 a.m. I couldn’t miss a day and I got used to it. At MTS, my job is to be here. So that’s what I do.”
