Many of us cherish the memories of that first bike we learned how to ride or that special bike we received as a holiday gift. Unfortunately, many families in San Diego can’t afford to purchase new bikes for their children. To help create lasting holiday memories for students, MTS employees on Wednesday morning surprised 183 kindergartners and first-graders at Harborside Elementary School with new bikes and helmets.
Students attended a brief assembly to learn safety tips about walking and riding a bike near the bus and Trolley. After the safety presentation, Santa Claus arrived unexpectedly and surprised the two students who participated in the safety presentation with bikes. Shortly after, MTS employees unveiled rows of bikes behind a curtain and each student in attendance recieved a new bike and helmet.
This was the 14th straight year that MTS has surprised students with bikes over the holidays. In total, more than 1,500 elementary-aged students have received new bikes over the holidays thanks to MTS employees.
Happy holidays!
