Transit Guide to Monster Jam and MLK Holiday Weekend

Trains will depart every 15 minutes on all three lines before and after Monster Jam each day.

San Diego- Monster Jam returns to PETCO Park this weekend, January 15-16! The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is encouraging attendees to avoid traffic, save money on parking, and take the Trolley to Monster Jam and events around the ballpark. Dozens of free Park & Ride locations along the system make it easy and hassle-free to get to the events. MTS is also planning slight service changes on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 17.

Getting to Monster Jam:

On Saturday, 1/15, show begins at 7 p.m. and ends approximately 9:15 p.m.

On Sunday, 1/16, show begins at 3 p.m. and ends approximately 5:15 p.m.

• Trains will depart every 15 minutes on all three lines before and after the event each day.
• Three (3) San Diego Trolley stations - 12th and Imperial, and the Gaslamp Quarter Station (Fifth Avenue and Harbor Drive) serve PETCO Park.
• Passengers taking the Green Line to the Pit Party should exit at the 12th & Imperial Transit Center. Passengers going directly to PETCO Park can exit at the Gaslamp Quarter Station.
• Passengers taking the Orange or UC San Diego Blue Line should exit at 12th & Imperial Transit Center for the Pit Party and PETCO Park.

Getting to the Pit Party:

Saturday: Pit Party at 2:30– 5:30 p.m.

Sunday: Pit Party at 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

• The entrance to the Pit Party will be on Imperial Avenue adjacent to PETCO Park. The Lexus Premier Lot and Tailgate Lot South will be unavailable for parking, so fans can choose to park for free at Park and Ride lots and take the Trolley to the event.
• Kids ride free! - Families going to Monster Jam can save big by taking MTS. On weekends, two children 12 and under ride for free with every paying adult.  

Free Park & Rides Lots- Dozens of transit centers allow for thousands of free parking spots when taking the Trolley or bus to PETCO. See full list of Park & Ride lots and number of spaces available.

Buying Your Transit Fare:

Use your phone as your Trolley pass with PRONTO or buy your fare at any ticket vending machine at Trolley stations

1-Day Passes are $6 for adults and $3 for seniors and youth, and included unlimited rides all day long

Martin Luther King Jr. (Monday, Jan. 17) Holiday Service Changes:

• All MTS buses and Trolleys will run on a weekday service schedule on MLK Day, Jan. 17
• Regular Service on the lines: Rapid Express Routes 280, 290, and COASTER Connection Routes 972, 973, 974, 978, 979
• Closed: Transit Store, PRONTO Support Center, Customer Service
• MTS Information and Trip Planning: Open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on MLK Day

MTS operates more than 100 bus routes and three Trolley lines in 10 cities and unincorporated areas of San Diego. Frequencies and spans have been restored to near-pre-COVID-19 levels.
