MTS Memorial Day Weekend Promotions and Service Schedule

Coronado’s Free Summer Shuttle begins service on Saturday, May 27

San Diego - Memorial Day travel by Southern Californians is expected to set a record this year and the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) has special promotions and service to accommodate passengers. Additionally, MTS would like to remind passengers that most bus and Trolley service will be operating on a Sunday schedule on Monday, May 29, and to plan accordingly based on the adjusted and limited schedule.

Promotions:

Family Weekends! On Saturday and Sunday MTS allows up to two children (age 12 and under) to ride free with a fare-paying adult (age 18 or older) on all MTS routes.

Friends Ride Free! On Memorial Day, MTS will allow one friend (any age) to ride free with a paying passenger on any bus or Trolley.

Scheduling:

Coronado’s “Free Summer Shuttle” (Route 904, sponsored by the City of Coronado) will begin service on Saturday, May 27 between Coronado City Hall and the Ferry Landing via Hotel del Coronado. The free shuttle runs from approximately 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every 15 minutes seven days per week, with later evening service on Fridays and Saturdays through Labor Day, Sept. 4.  Free Summer Shuttle trips are scheduled to meet all ferry trips seven days a week.

Service schedule impacts for Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, are as follows:

  • Most MTS buses and all Trolleys will operate on a Sunday schedule
  • Rapid 215 and 235 – Sunday schedule
  • Rapid Express 237, 280 and 290 – No service
  • Sorrento Valley COASTER Connection (Routes 972, 973, 978, 979) – No service
  • Express Routes 50, 60, 110, 150 and 870 – No Service
  • Rural Route 888 – Operates on Tuesday, May 30 instead
  • Rural Routes 891, 892 and 894 – No service
  • MTS Access – subscriptions

Support Services     

The MTS Information and Trip Planning call center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The MTS Transit Store, Compass Service Center and Customer Service call center will be closed.

MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday more than 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services. In FY 2016, MTS served 92.6 million riders.
