Once upon a time, Coronado (as we now know it) was purchased for a whopping $110,000. In 1885, businessmen Elisha Babock Jr. and Hampton Story purchased the Coronado Peninsula with hopes of establishing “the grandest hotel on the Pacific Coast.” Two years later, the Hotel Del groundbreaking occurred. Now, 132 years after its initial purchase, Coronado is a favorite destination for residents and visitors alike.
Every summer, the city of Coronado sponsors free rides and extended service on Route 904! Starting May 27, Route 904 serves as Coronado’s “Free Summer Shuttle,” with 15-minute frequency daily, and extended weekend service until after 10 p.m.
