The number one priority for MTS is the safety of our passengers. As such, we’re always looking for ways to improve security onboard and at transit centers.
Starting early September, riders will start to see an increase in security presence with a new staffing plan from our Transit Enforcement Division. Our team of 64 Code Compliance Inspectors (CCIs) and 144 Transit System Security (TSS) officers will begin working a beat system to offer greater coverage on our light rail system.
“Each beat will consist of three to five stations, and each train team (one CCI and one TSS officer) will be responsible for their assigned beat,” said MTS Chief of Police Manny Guaderrama. “By adding additional Code Compliance Inspectors, we nearly triple our presence at any given time.” The new staffing schedule will allow MTS to increase security presence during the day, and maintain current coverage in the evenings.
Other changes MTS has implemented to support passenger safety include:
One other important security enhancements for riders to know is the direct texting and calling feature to report suspicious or illegal behavior. If you ever need to report an incident to security, you can text or call (619) 318-1338 to reach our dispatch team directly.
