
To improve employee access to information relative to hazardous materials found on our property, MTS has rolled out an intranet-based system to store Safety Data Sheets (SDS). SDS are issued by chemical manufacturers as a way of communicating information about their products, such as required personal protective equipment (PPE) and potential health effects per the manufacturer.
Previously the SDS were stored in a binder in each department and contained only hazardous materials found at that location. The new system, SiteHawk, allows the user to quickly access information on any material in use by MTS sorted by type, location, etc. The new system automatically replaces a safety data sheet when the manufacturer issues an update.
The following video illustrates how to access SiteHawk from any computer on the MTS network. This procedure should also be covered in toolbox meetings and Hazard Communication Training.
